One of the pioneers in using HVO is Sweden. Since its introduction in 2015, HVO has established itself as a leading biofuel on the Swedish road transportation fuel market. All renewable fuels are needed for Sweden to have a fossil-free transport sector. Currently, HVO is mainly used by commercial transport fleets such as buses and heavy-duty trucks, but its use by diesel car owners is increasing as more pumps are being installed at filling stations. HVO is classified as the most environmentally friendly fuel by ‘Energimyndigheten’ in Sweden.
The World Alpine Skiing Championships held in February 2019 in Sweden, were fuelled by HVO from bus transportation to mini-trains operating around the ski village, as well as biodiesel that heated the buildings. (Source: Biofuels Digest)
